Looking for ways to save money at the grocery store? Check out these 5 Tips to Outsmart Your Supermarket!

Tips to Outsmart Your Supermarket

Going to the supermarket and going $50 over your weekly budget is heartbreaking. Maybe you are at your whit’s end with trying to make your budget work. Maybe you are just trying too hard and your local supermarket is not cutting you a break. Maybe you aren’t being smarter than your supermarket. Here are 5 Tips to Outsmart Your Supermarket and save some money.

#1. Ask for Rainchecks:

Often if a sale is really good, a store can run out of products. But what a lot of people do not know or do not think to ask for is a raincheck. Not all stores offer this, but a lot do! So if there is a super sale on an item and they are sold out, ask if you can have a raincheck for the sale price. That way when it comes back in stock, you can get it for the great price.

#2. Look for coupons:

I love coupons that are in store because it’s like I don’t even have to do any work. I just walk through the store and look for coupons. Coupons are plentiful in a store if you’re willing to look. Companies want to move the products off the shelves, so coupons are an incentive. Don’t be shy about looking for coupons. You can also print coupons before you go. Depending on the store, you may even be able to use a store coupon and a printed coupon on the same item.

#3. Double check the prices:

Sometimes supermarkets put tags on products just to make it look like it is on sale. The bad news is that the items probably aren’t on sale and are at their everyday price. Don’t be fooled into thinking something is on sale. Always do your due diligence and LOOK. This will save you tons of money.

#4. Look at the dates:

When you see a sale, you’re thinking…GREAT. However, sales don’t always mean you’re saving money. Don’t just buy the item that is on top because the date isn’t always the best. Products that are further back on the shelves have the best dates. (That is if the company is rotating their products, anyways).

#5. Take your time:

I have noticed that supermarkets are designed to encourage you to buy random products. The way everything is set up is to entice you and get you to buy. If you can resist their marketing strategies, you will be good to go. Take your time shopping, look for the best deal, and avoid the random products strewn throughout the store that they want you to buy. This is truly where making a list comes in handy!
