When you have to travel, the last thing you really want to be thinking about is saving money. Whether you are flying, driving, riding the bus or hopping a train, traveling can be stressful if you don’t have a plan ahead of time. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to prepare yourself so that you can enjoy the trip.
Here are some great ideas to save some money while traveling without stressing you out:
Consider a professional
If you are traveling out of country or going to a resort area, you might want to consider at least listening to a professional travel agent. Some are not on the up and up, but the vast majority are. Do some homework and find a good one to get a quote from. Ask around and you will find someone that can refer you to a decent agent. They really can save you headaches and money.
Consider alternate transportation
Always look at every trip from every single angle. Sometimes it is better to take a bus or train if you are wanting to save money. If you are going to need a vehicle to drive around when you get there, then perhaps you might consider driving instead. Flying is always an option and you can usually save big by shopping around. Look at all the options for each individual trip and find out which one fits your travel plans the best.
Travel during the offseason
Certainly there are times when you have to travel at a particular time. For those other times, however, consider going during the shoulder times. In other words, rather than spending extra on a flight during June to the beach, consider flying there in September. If you are willing to travel at different times of the year, you can save a great deal on flights, lodging, fun and even car rental rates.
Package your deal
Dig in online for an afternoon and look around for a nice, package deal that includes your travel and accommodations. Sometimes you can find deals that include food and other amenities too. All it will cost you to find out is a bit of time surfing the web and doing some homework. It certainly can’t hurt and it might save you a wad of cash in the process!
Consider a rental
Rental cars have become so cheap these days that it has become tough to beat their prices. Even if you get on the bus, long considered the cheapest mode of travel, you still are not going to save that much money over a rental. With a rental car, you get the comfort of a nice automobile, good gas prices if you choose logically and the freedom to come and go without concern for cabs and buses.
