Readers Please Help! Crayon Catastrophe! I Need Ideas!!!

I woke up this morning to an interesting development in my dryer. Along with a full load of my twin’ clothes, a BROWN CRAYON jumped into the laundry. Of course I didn’t notice this until it effectively tarnished the whole load of laundry with very questionable looking brown smears. (Insert very horrified face!)

If this was a red crayon or a happy yellow crayon, I might be able to look past the melted on marks that are all over all of the clothes. It might even be considered art! ;-)

In light of it being a brown crayon, unfortunately, it can’t be looked past. People would definitely not see these brown smears all over their clothing as crayon marks, and I would get a reputation around town as having the kids who wear clothes covered in…well something far yuckier than innocent crayon marks!

So does anyone have any ideas on how I can get all of this crayon out of the laundry? The whole load has crayon smears all over it, with nothing being spared. White socks are now covered in brown smears. Jackets, jeans, shirts, everything.

Can anyone help me save this laundry?

I remember my mom telling me something about this. You put a piece of paper on it and iron over it without water. At least I think that it is paper you are supposed to use. The idea is that the crayon will melt again and be absorbed into the paper. Just use blank paper and not newspaper because that’d make a bigger mess.

Thank you for the reply! :-)
That sounds like a great idea! Hmm. Now where is that iron? I have the clothes in washing again. Do you think I should air dry them before I try to iron them?

use a credit card or something to get all the crayon out of dryer. Run dryer for a few min with nothign it it and it will soften to get it out. the crayon clothes i rewashed and dried after I cleaned dryer and it came out may take 2 washes…just had this happen 2 months ago with green and then again with a blue :(

Thanks Janae!
I am glad I am not the only one with crayon issues. :-) I couldn’t believe it when I saw the mess! Yikes! I have rewashed them once, and I am re-drying them now. I am hoping for the best! It would be nice if I can get out of this without it being an all-day adventure! But anything is better than ruining all of those clothes, so I am going to try it all until something works! Great idea on the credit card BTW! I hadn’t thought of that. I was thinking a toothpick to scrape it off, but THAT would take a really long time! LOL

I have yet to have a crayon incident, although I’m sure it will happen someday. I hope you were able to remove the crayon, could you post an update to let us know what worked best?
